The Start Of Something Indescribable.: So, I'm gonna pass on The Hobbit
It’s another white man’s fantasy about white people doing things in a world where people of color miraculously don’t exist.
I don’t see how this is supposed to appeal to me as both a reader and a movie watcher….
LMFAO they’re not even human. CALM YOUR…
Also… Isn’t assuming that you won’t be interested in a movie JUST because it has white actors JUST as racist as if I were to say that I didn’t want to see, say, “Dreamgirls,” or something with a lot of black people in it? This is based on a book where they aren’t even human, so why should they have different races? Therefore, YOU’RE the racist one for automatically being uninterested.
fuck you
fuck
you
fuck
you
you white supremacy upholding dickbag
Imma side eye the fuck out of anyone who tries to contend that Tolkien wasn’t at the very least a closet white supremacist (which, newsflash, he was pretty open about Britain needing to return to it’s “pure” state).
Like…I mean…really?
I get that people want to use fantasy as escapism, but fantasy, specifically the fantasy of the 20th century onwards, has historically been used by authors (read: white authors) to depict their visions of a utopic world and/or the risks of too much ~interbreeding~ with their Black and Brown subjects.
The people who established 20th century fantasy as we know it were pretty unanimously horrible people. Take a few moments, illwait-foryou, to look at any of the political and cultural criticisms written by Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, or any of the heavy-hitters in early fantasy. Take your time.
Don’t worry, I won’t be waiting for you.
